2019 Summer 90-Day Challenge Last Update

🤯 After I came back from Detroit and I had that bad toothache I never got back on schedule with my three summer goals. 😩

As for editing and revising Jinxed I’m on the last one third of chapters. It has some further rounds of editing and revising to go before it gets to the beta readers. I’m somewhat behind on my schedule. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I don’t eat as much sugar. I’m still working on this because this is a long term health goal that will never go away. Minimizing eating sugar is important to my overall health.

Lastly, I stopped making IGTV vids. I’m more focused on podcasting. Despite the fact, I love the video medium perhaps it’s not the right platform for me considering how I feel about social media. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m not disappointed. I did achieve one of my goals which was to finish the first draft of Jinxed. And now I’m also done doing the first round of edits. That’s an accomplishment. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Weekly 90 Day Summer Challenge Update

I’m here in Detroit. I’m at my daughter’s various bowling tournaments. It’s been a great and fun week so far. I have another week to go.

WIP - I’ve been getting brief opportunities to edit while I’ve been sitting in the bowling alleys. I’m lucky I’m getting in about 30 to 60 minutes of editing. I haven’t done any writing on one of my projects that I have for Camp NaNoWriMo. I have to get to 10,000 words by the end of the month. ***SIGH***

Less sugar - I’ve been eating less added sugar, but I’ve been heavy on the bread this past week. I will see on Sunday how much weight I’ve lost. While on travel, it’s been difficult to really keep within my parameters of what I’m trying to do. I’m still making the best decisions I can given the circumstances. Right now, I’m munching on my sweet green bell peppers. Good in Vitamin C and has fiber.

IGTV - I really thought my trip would help me do more IGTV content. The most I’ve done is do IG stories. I’m really bad at this goal. I have to overcome this blockage I have when it comes to posting these videos. Working on my internal so I can share my external. I guess.

Until next week.

Weekly 90 Day Summer Challenge Update

I have a lot of things going on at the moment. Outside of my summer challenges.

I have my massage today with Yao. 90 minutes of peace and relaxation. Her hands are heaven sent.

I also have to finish packing for my trip to Detroit. I have a few items that need to be washed. I have my list of things to pack, but I feel like I’m waiting for the last minute to get anything done.

I then need to get the oil changed to my daughter’s car. We’re driving her car because it’s better on gas. 87 octane versus 93.

It’s also CAMP NANOWRIMO month. Every April and July. I’m working on getting to 10,000 words in one of my newer projects. In camp, a writer can work by words, minutes, hours, pages…whatever floats. Unlike NaNoWriMo in November. That’s all about 50k words. I have to be diligent and work on my project while I’m in Detroit. I’m taking my computer, so I should be able to stay on track.

Update:

WIP: I’ve been reading another book about Showing vs Telling in writing. To make sure I’m showing and not telling, I took another look at the first five scenes I wrote in Jinxed. It took me about two hours to rewrite sentences that could have been written better and/or stronger. I’m going to take about an hour today to do scene six. Slow and steady wins the race. I will make the December 2019 publishing date.

Less sugar: WHAAAAAAT, I’m crushing it! I’ve lost 10.2 pounds! Since June 9th! I feel better. I can feel the difference when I rise in the morning. I don’t feel sluggish after a night’s rest. This has prompted me to think about rejoining a gym. I listened to this audio book on nutrition. It was informative. As I age, I lose lean muscle mass. I need to get into a gym and start weight lifting to retain my muscle. I don’t want to be sack of fat and bones as I age. YUCK! LA Fitness? Gold’s Gym? Planet Fitness? What’s your recommendation? I live within a four mile radius of all three.

IGTV: I’m trash with this goal. I think it will be better when I leave for Detroit. I’ll have something to share. Right now, I’m not interested in getting in front of a camera and rambling. I want my content to have meaning. I want it to be interesting, so people will want to stay tuned. I haven’t posted any videos in two weeks. This will get better over the next two weeks tho!

Okay, that’s it for this week!

Yeah I’m done 🥺

I see sawed back and forth about going back to my YouTube channel or starting a new one.  🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve said this in lots of blogs posts about how long I’ve been on YouTube, but I’ve also said how much I’ve come to not like what YouTube has become. 😔  Reminds me of Facebook.  As a YouTube viewer, it’s good shit.  I can find a lot of videos on a wide variety of topics for learning or opinions.  But as a content creator, bring out the sharp knifes and get ready to be cutthroat.  👀🔪

I’ve now made my decision about what I’m going to do. 👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽👏🏽🙌🏽

🥁****DRUM ROLL PLEASE****🥁

I’m ditching my YouTube Channel or building a new YouTube channel for starting a new IGTV channel.  🤯😳

IGTV will be a year old on June 18th and despite I’ve been reluctant to dip my video chops into the IGTV waters, I’ve been keeping an eye on the medium.  Now I can say I got in on the platform before it was a year old. 😂 Semantics, I know.  But still true! 🙃

The previous interface of IGTV wasn’t pleasant because I struggled with how I’d bring traffic to my channel.  I felt like it was too much work, like YouTube.  Trying to get people subscribe.  A positive of IGTV is my audience is build in because it’s already being streamed to my followers.  My IGTV videos are posted in my feed.  Plus I have the use of hashtags to help allow people to find my content even more.  #winning 🤩

I also like the fact that IGTV isn’t monetized…as of yet.  So everyone who is posting videos on their channels are truly there for the content and not to make money from the site.  They can be making money from sponsorship deals but that’s not in direct competition with the IGTV platform.  The platform is there for the content creators.  🌎🌍🌏

In addition, I like using vertical video.  It’s simple and easy to use.  I can record on my camera just like I would if I was looking it and I don’t have be concerned how close my face is to the camera in horizontal aspect.

I don’t feel like I’m in competition with anyone on IGTV.  I have my videos that I post my channel, that show up in my feed for my followers and that’s it.  If people find my content through my feed, then they follow, then they have access to my videos.  EASY.  No fuss.

I feel like I’m back in balance.  I love doing videos.  I loved doing my videos for my YouTube channel, but I felt I wasn’t in balance because I didn’t have the subscribers to grow and finding those are difficult.  I know.  I watch people all the time on YouTube and don’t sub to their channel.  It’s like a competition to get subs.  And YouTube bases so many of its features on how many subs a channel has.  You get this when you get this many subs.  And I don’t think that’s fair when you have people who’ve been on the site and using it before Google came along to purchase it.  I can go on and on about this, but you guys get it.

So now you can find my videos on IGTV.  I have two channels.  👇🏽

@michellescarey - this was really my author channel, but I’ve seem to allow it focus more on bowling and highlighting my daughter’s bowling.  I do also highlight my other daughter’s musical talents.  Sometimes, I will highlight my books.  I will also showcase my life from time to time.

@michellecareywrites - this is now my author and writing channel.  I don’t feature anything about bowling or anything about my children’s endeavors.  This is strictly about me being an author, writing and my life.

Look me up and follow. 👈🏽  I’m looking forward to building content and sharing information! ✌🏽
