JINXED - First Draft - DONE!!!!

Feeling pretty accomplished right now.

I have finally completed the first draft to the Jinxed manuscript. This has been a long time in the making because I wrote the screenplay in 2006. So much has changed since that time in regards to technology. I had a lot to update. But I made it through.

I wanted to get to at least 50k words. I only clocked in at 47,151. I hoping through the rewrite and revision process I will make up for the shortfall. But the main thing is that the first draft is done, done, done!

Imma say it again friends, IT’S DONE!!!!!

WIPs

Thinking about making some changes to my WIPs.

I just can’t seem to get it together for one of my stories. It has some structural issues. I added a character and now I have to figure out how this character fits into the second act. Once I figure that out, it will be smooth sailing.

Then my other project that I planned to release next year, I could probably get it out by the end of this year if went in on it like zero to 100 for 30 days.

I’m seriously considering rearranging my WIPs. Whatever I do, I have to KEEP WRITING. I’ve been known to take breaks…usually long breaks. LOL

I have to go where the writing takes me. And right now, it’s telling me finish Jinxed and fix The Crofton Triangle. Make it right.

A plan…

2019 🍒 90 Day Summer 🌝Challenge

This will be the third time of me doing my 90 day summer challenge. 👏🏽👏🏽 I did it in 2017 and last year, 2018.  Each summer, on June 1st, I pick out some goals to work on for the next 90 days. Basically to August 31st/September 1.

This year I’m going to focus on finishing the first draft of one of my WIPs. 🤔  I’m thinking Jinxed. 🖋

The second thing is lessening how much sugar I eat. 🤯 Through a lot of prayer and meditation I really hope to make progress on this goal. It seems like everything we consume has sugar in it. I haven’t decided if I’m going to give up my fruit in the morning. 🤭🤦🏽‍♀️

The third thing is making sure I vlog on my IGTV channel. 📹 I’m over YouTube. 😒 😂 I have two IGTV channels. One is specifically for highlighting my writing efforts. I’ve been looking at editing apps for vertical video.  I need to get that and I hope to post my second video sometime over the next few days. I haven’t posted video to my main IG channel. Not sure if I want to. But I’m definitely going to post on my writing channel. 💙

These are three goals for the summer of 2019. Next up date will be in two to four weeks. For some reason this year I’m being very lose with how I’m doing this. I’m feeling free with it. 💃🏽

Let me know if you have some summer goals you plan to pursue for the next 90 days.

Having Growth Mindset

Are you in a FIXED mindset? Sometimes I am. Sometimes, I think I’m not good enough or that I don’t have the skills. That others may do better than myself. I don’t know why I think like that sometimes when I know I’m capable.

It’s better to have a GROWTH mindset. Where I’m always improving and developing my skills. Allowing myself to perform better than I did before. Giving myself a chance to learn and growth. I can get better. I can do better. I am continually developing my skills.

I read this IDEA report by the NeuroLeadership Institute. It was about the Growth Mindset Culture in businesses. We are on the edge, the beginning of new age in the workforce. Like a new industrial age, but in a technological sense. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence are going to take over so many jobs. What will people do. We won’t need as many jobs if robots and AI can do the job. What will any of us to do? What will be the need for me to continue to write books, if AI can be programmed to write stories? But we can’t be in a fixed mindset knowing these changes are happening around us.

I think it is all interesting because in these changing times, we can’t be down on ourselves about what can and cannot do. We have to have a growth mindset. We can’t be stuck. We can’t remain fixed. Old habits are hard to break. Learn to be patient with yourself.

I say all this because this is how I feel about my writing. I know with each book I’m getting better and better at my craft. I’m branching out into different genres of writing. It’s scary because on some days I think to myself, can I really write this? But I keep forging ahead, despite the fact what I think others might think. I’m moving from a constant fixed mindset to a growth mindset and I’m loving the journey.

April - Camp NaNoWriMo

I competed in April’s Camp NANOWRIMO. My goal was to get to 40k words in the latest book I’m working on. I was at 36k when I started the camp.  Yes, only 4,000 words. I think I signed up on April 15th. I was late in the game. So, yeah 4,000 words in about 10 days. Pat on the back! I’m proud of me. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I plan to do July’s Camp too. Crazy part is I will be out town for a full two weeks during the next camp. I will have my laptop with me but I will have to really find time to fit it in. I’m thinking of writing 20,000 words to a project I’ve already started. That’s 645 words per day. 😩 I’m still toying with it. We’ll see.
